Pepper’s story is unfortunately a familiar one for the SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue Network (SBPRN). She was discovered roaming the streets of Yuma when she was seven years old and pregnant. Despite her sweet nature and beauty, Pepper remained in the Yuma shelter for over two years and was repeatedly overlooked for adoption. Eventually, the shelter contacted Cherished Tails Senior Sanctuary (CTSS) in Marana for assistance in finding Pepper a loving home. CTSS volunteers promptly drove up to Yuma, rescued Pepper, and placed her with one of their caring fosters.
Carol Ingstad’s Phone Call
Meanwhile, SBPRN received a phone call from Carol Ingstad, a long-time resident of SaddleBrooke who had recently lost her cherished companion of 14 years, Heidi. Feeling lost without her furry friend, she reached out to SBPRN for assistance in finding another dog. After learning about the type and age of dog Carol hoped to adopt, SBPRN provided her with a list of rescue groups they work with, and her search for a new furry friend began in earnest.
A New Companion and a Fur-ever Home
Carol wasted no time in spotting Pepper on the CTSS website, prompting her to ask for help in arranging a meet and greet. Like most adoption processes, a home inspection was required and was carried out by a SBPRN volunteer before scheduling the meeting. Fortunately, the home inspection went smoothly, leading to an appointment for Carol to finally meet Pepper. From that point forward, the rest is history. Pepper found her fur-ever home with Carol that very day.
Pepper, now nine years old, is classified as a special needs dog due to her seizures, expertly managed with medication. Although Carol initially aimed to adopt a sheltie like her beloved Heidi, fate had other plans. Thankfully, Carol embraced the opportunity to open her heart to different possibilities. Pepper is one fortunate little girl who undoubtedly won the love lottery!
This SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue Network’s heartwarming adoption story is just one of many uplifting tales for the residents of SaddleBrooke and The Preserve.
