Breeze in the Trees 5K: Quail Creek Runners Shine

Barb Christensen, Laura Mandel, and Alphie Smith were the QCRC representatives who took on the 5K challenge. Christensen’s impressive performance earned her a third-place finish in her age group. This marked the third consecutive summer that Smith and Christensen had shared the running experience together, demonstrating their commitment to the event.

A Scenic Run Through Pecan Groves

The Breeze in the Trees 5K is an out-and-back course that winds through the picturesque Green Valley Pecan Company. Runners and walkers enjoyed the shade provided by the towering pecan trees as they navigated the scenic route. The event was organized by FICO (Farmers Investment Company) and the Walden family.

A Community-Focused Event

The 5K attracted a diverse group of participants, including families and wheelchair athletes. With over 250 entrants, the event fostered a sense of community and inclusivity. An awards ceremony followed the race, recognizing the achievements of top finishers.

A Festive Atmosphere

The Breeze in the Trees 5K was more than just a race; it was a celebration of health, fitness, and community spirit. Before and after the event, attendees enjoyed a festive atmosphere filled with music, food, and activities. The Green Valley Firefighters served delicious pancakes topped with pecans and pecan syrup to the finishers, while the Sahuarita 4-H Club showcased their livestock, adding a touch of rural charm to the event.

Supporting Local Youth

The proceeds from the Breeze in the Trees 5K were generously donated to two local organizations: FFA (Future Farmers of America) of Rio Rico High School and the Sahuarita 4-H Club. These contributions will support youth development and educational programs in the community.
