A Seed of Change is Planted at SaddleBrooke
SaddleBrooke residents, Pat Rourke and Melody Branstrom, embarked on a unique mission after a visit to the “Washed Ashore” exhibit at the Tucson Botanical Gardens. This powerful display featured ocean life sculptures crafted entirely from plastic waste, a stark reminder of the impact plastic pollution has on our oceans. A seed of change is planted at SaddleBrooke and The Preserve.
Plant a Seed of Change
Deeply moved by the experience, Pat began a small-scale initiative in her garage. Firstly, she started collecting specific hard-to-recycle materials like cleaned plastics, broken-down cardboard, aluminum cans, metals, and glass from acquaintances and neighbors. Soon, the growing collection highlighted the need for a larger solution. A seed of change is planted at saddleBrooke.
Enter the “Bigger Boat”
Then, Melody Branstrom stepped up, offering her pickup truck as the “bigger boat” Pat needed. Together, they embarked on their first journey, hauling a truckload of sorted and cleaned recyclables to Tucson’s Ward 6. This receptive district welcomed their efforts, as these materials would be directed towards ByFusion, a local company pioneering the creation of long-lasting bricks from hard-to-recycle plastics. These innovative bricks boast a lifespan of up to 1,000 years!
Together We Rise
While the task may seem daunting, Pat and Melody emphasize that environmental responsibility transcends location. Even in the beautiful communities of SaddleBrooke and The Preserve at SaddleBrooke, proactive measures are essential. Their dedication, along with the support of neighbors and friends, exemplifies the power of collective action. Small contributions, when combined, can create a significant impact.
Looking Ahead: Charting a Course for Change
Furthermore, encouraged by the positive response, Pat and Melody are planning an informal gathering. The purpose of this gathering is to share resources and ideas for further environmental initiatives.
