Residents also share a strong commitment to supporting causes that make a meaningful difference. Through its ongoing efforts to help Arizona veterans, the Quail Creek Veterans Golf Association (QCVGA) shows how golfers give back—most recently with a generous donation to Soldiers’ Best Friend.
Supporting Veterans Through Service
Recently, the Quail Creek Veterans Golf Association presented a $1,000 donation to Soldiers’ Best Friend (SBF), an Arizona nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans living with PTSD or traumatic brain injuries.
Guided by its motto, “Touching Two Lives at Once,” Soldiers’ Best Friend pairs veterans with rescue dogs that they personally train to become certified service dogs. The program, provided at no cost to veterans, is supervised by certified trainers and typically takes six to nine months to complete. Veterans may also have their own dogs evaluated for participation.
To date, Soldiers’ Best Friend has paired more than 500 veterans with life-changing service dogs.
A Personal Connection
For QCVGA President Rene Gill, the organization’s mission is especially meaningful. The retired Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant completed the Soldiers’ Best Friend program in 2023 with his rescue dog, Kooper. Gill describes the experience as a bond that goes beyond words, highlighting the profound impact the program has on both veterans and their canine companions.
Expanding the Mission
Soldiers’ Best Friend recently celebrated another milestone with the opening of its new Tucson training facility. In addition to Tucson, the organization offers training programs in Phoenix, Flagstaff, Yuma, Prescott, Sierra Vista, Sahuarita, and Green Valley, making its services accessible to veterans throughout Arizona.
