Weekly Gatherings and Lessons
Before COVID-19, Gail Latimer and Bonnie Goldman coordinated weekly Mahjong games and occasional lessons on Thursdays at La Hacienda Club. These gatherings provided a platform for residents to sharpen their skills and foster connections within the community. Beyond these organized sessions, numerous private groups host their own weekly games in the comfort of their homes, adding an extra layer of camaraderie to the Mahjong experience.
The Annual Card Tradition
At the heart of Mahjong at SaddleBrooke Ranch lies the tradition of the annual card provided by the NMJL. The card is a treasure trove, containing all the official hands for the year. This year marks the sixth consecutive year of coordinating a group order with the NMJL.
Charitable Giving through Gameplay
The NMJL contributes $5 and bonuses to for every card ordered. In the previous year, more than 250 participants, united as "SaddleBrooke Ranch Mah Jongg Players," achieved a record-breaking sum of $1,350. The chosen recipient of their donation was the SaddleBrooke Community Outreach organization. A check was presented to President Denise Anthony, highlighting Mahjong's positive impact.
