PebbleCreek Tennis Club Doubles Championship

The PebbleCreek Tennis Club hosted its Second Annual Men’s Doubles Championship at the Tuscany Falls courts. The event brimmed with excitement, camaraderie, and competition. Over five mornings of thrilling play, competitors showcased their athleticism, strategy, and quick thinking, culminating in the crowning of new champions.

A Well-Organized Event

A dedicated committee, including David Frederick, Charlie Reinert, Troney Hutchins, Ken Minichiello, and Tournament Director Vikki Constable, worked tirelessly to orchestrate the event. Two divisions were featured this year:

• Division A: A Round Robin format with five 4.0-caliber teams.
• Division B: A double-elimination format featuring eight 3.5-caliber teams across four brackets, ensuring each participant played at least two rounds.

Unforgettable Matches and Results

The championship featured several memorable matches, including an intense two-hour semifinal in Division A. Troney Hutchins and Eric Rohlman triumphed over Randy Welsh and Rick Camozzi in a thrilling 10-point tiebreaker. The match’s length and complexity even required assistance from Dave Frederick, who stepped in to call the score after every point.

The champions were:

• Division A Champions: Dave Kersey and Randy Planck, who defeated Dave Henry and Greg Fisher.
• Division B Champions: Charlie Reinert and Mike Getz, who bested Steve Farley and Jay Hayden.

Club President Mike Stepien announced the winners and presented prizes to the champions and finalists, along with providing daily snacks for all participants.

Looking Ahead

The PebbleCreek Tennis Club’s Men’s Doubles Championship is set to return next spring, with incoming Tournament Director Carrie Ingersoll expected to announce the exact dates soon. Participants can anticipate an even more engaging and competitive event.
