The Power in Volunteering at Robson Ranch Arizona
At Robson Ranch Arizona, retirement is more than just leisure; it’s an opportunity to live with purpose. Among the many activities and connections available is the Virtues Connections group, led by Master Virtues Facilitator Betsy Lydle Smith. This group reflects on life’s core values, shares meaningful ways to embody them in daily life and shows there’s a power in volunteering at Robson Ranch Arizona.
One of their recent discussions centered on the virtue of “Service,” beautifully defined by The Virtues Project™ as:
“Using our gifts to be of service is the fullest expression of our lives. Each day we find a multitude of ways to be useful. Whatever we may achieve, the quality of our own life comes from the quality of our contribution. First and foremost we serve our loved ones. A spirit of service invests whatever we do with excellence. People who want to be of service can change the world.”
This resonates deeply with Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s words:
“Everybody can be great … because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve … you only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
For many residents at Robson Ranch Arizona, retirement is about finding fulfillment and contributing to the world around them, whether through volunteering, mentoring, or helping those in need.
Finding Purpose in Service
Rev. Donna Vande Kieft’s story illustrates this beautifully. As a chaplain, she once supported hospice caregivers, preaching about caregiving as one of the hardest and highest callings. But when she became a full-time caregiver for her husband Bill, she faced her own challenges. Despite the difficulty, she embraced this season of service, supporting him until his passing.
Bill had dreamed of volunteering with children, but his illness prevented him from fulfilling that goal. To honor his memory, Donna became a reading tutor through AARP, helping second and third graders improve their literacy skills. She discovered that this act of service not only brought healing and purpose to her life but also made a meaningful impact on the children she worked with.
“Learning to read is the ultimate gift for every student,” she shared, reflecting on the joy and fulfillment her volunteering has brought her.
Opportunities for Service
Robson Ranch Arizona offers countless ways to connect and give back. Whether you’re passionate about mentoring, teaching, or simply lending a helping hand, there’s a place for you to make a difference. As Donna discovered, the gift of service can transform both the giver and the recipient, making retirement a time of growth, connection, and purpose.
