A Scenic Hiking Adventure Near The Preserve at SaddleBrooke
A Morning on the Trail
The group set out for Pima Canyon, located at the east end of Magee Road. The trail, officially known as the Iris O. Dewhirst Trail, provides access to Coronado National Forest. It is widely known as one of the most scenic hiking destinations in Southern Arizona.
The hike began near the paved parking area and followed a route into a V-shaped canyon along the south face of Pusch Ridge. As the hikers climbed, views opened up across Tucson and the surrounding mountain ranges.
Although shade is limited on much of the trail, the early start helped the group enjoy several cooler hours. The steep rock faces and nearby ridgelines also provided pockets of relief from the desert sun.
Scenic Views and Desert Beauty
After several hours on the trail, the group reached a small dam near several Indian grinding holes. It was a memorable resting spot before they retraced their steps back to the trailhead.
By the end of the outing, the hikers had completed more than six miles and climbed over 1,000 feet. Along the way, they experienced sweeping canyon views, rugged desert terrain, and some of Tucson’s finest scenery.
For residents who enjoy hiking, the area around The Preserve offers convenient access to trails that showcase the beauty of the Sonoran Desert. From quiet mornings outdoors to shared adventures with friends, these experiences are part of what makes life in this region so special.
