Mudslingers Totally Kilning It at SaddleBrooke Ranch

The Mudslingers club is just one of the many social clubs and activities at SaddleBrooke Ranch. Recently, the Mudslingers participated in an Empty Bowls event. Empty Bowls helps Interfaith Community Services (ICS) raise funds to feed people struggling with hunger in Pima County. The Mudslingers club created, boxed, and delivered 138 bowls to the event. Our potters did a great deal of work and our kiln loaders fired all those bowls along with the normal volume during the past six months. Our Clay and Glaze Committee made sure we had an ample supply of materials to support this worthwhile endeavor. One of our potters, Suzanne Shiff, has been a volunteer with ICS. She was thrilled with the Mudslingers club and stated that the ICS is an amazing gift to the Tucson community.

The Mudslingers Club’s Workload

We do like to keep busy. On top of the work for Empty Bowls, our potters have taught quite a few classes (pinch pots, extruder, wheel, glazing with flux and stroke coat, interactive pigments, and texturing and embellishments). All this in just the first three months of the year!

Pottery Classes and Enrollment

How can you join and take advantage of these wonderful programs? Stop by during studio hours and complete your enrollment for an upcoming session. The hand-building class starts at noon. The cost is $40. Approximately three to four weeks after attending your intro class, there is a session on glazing techniques, allowing you to put designer colors on your pottery piece (once your piece has been fired).

Studio Hours and Contact Information

The studio is available to the SaddleBrooke Ranch Mudslingers Club  on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. and on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You can check out the club’s website at to learn more about the programs and upcoming events.
